About Disney Insider
Disney+ announced exclusively to Decider the premiere of Disney Insider, a weekly series that will pull back the curtains on fans’ favorite House of Mouse-created projects. It’s like getting a special tour of Disney World from the comfort of your couch.
Disney Insider will focus on different projects all throughout The Walt Disney Company, from music and destinations to theme parks and movies. Each week the documentary series will tell three different stories all connected to what makes Disney’s storytelling so special. The goal of the series is to highlight Disney’s latest and most exciting projects on a week-by-week basis.
The first episode of the series is set to premiere on Friday, March 20 with “Aloha Idol, Singing StarGirl, Creating Onward.” In the first part Katy Perry will take viewers the behind-the-scenes on the Hawaiian set of American Idol, which is taking place at Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa. Next up Grace VanderWaal will spill on what it was like to make her acting debut in Disney+’s upcoming drama Stargirl. And this first episode is saving the best for last. Longtime Pixar producer Kori Rae will dive into the development process of Onward, Disney and Pixar’s upcoming movie about two teenage brothers who go on a journey to try and revive their dead father to spend one more day with him.
Disney Insider will join the brand’s growing library of behind-the-scenes movies and series. Currently Disney+ has One Day at Disney, a documentary about 10 impressive employees; Empire of Dreams; a documentary about making the Star Wars trilogy; Waking Sleeping Beauty, an eye-opening movie about the drama behind Disney’s second animated film; Frank and Ollie, a documentary about the legendary animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston; The Imagineering Story, a six-part series about building Disney’s parks; and The Plausible Impossible, a documentary from the 1950s all about the evolution of animation. We can’t wait to pull back this particular magical curtain a little further.
