The murder case that propelled a true-crime podcaster to nationwide fame comes back to haunt her when new evidence arises that suggests her original suspect may have been wrongfully convicted.
Truth Be Told tells the story of a family trying to solve the mystery behind their father’s death. The fathers of twin brothers Cosie and Lanie were shot to death in the head. They think it was their rebellious neighbor, Warren Cave, who shot their father.But these allegations are insufficient to solve the mystery of the murder. The brothers are thrown in a different direction after their father’s mysterious murder. But a reporter’s program causes them to return to their hometown years later. Poppy Parnell, a successful reporter, calls on Warren Cave, who cannot be proven guilty, to the show she presents, and she asks questions to discover a new truth about a murder committed years ago. This fact will cause a file that was closed years ago to be reopened.Adapted from the novel of the same name by Kathleen Barber, Are You Sleeping is brought to the screen by Nichelle Tramble Spellman. The series, starring Octavia Spencer, also stars such as This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones, Lizzy Caplan, Aaron Paul, Elizabeth Perkins, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Beach, Tracie Thoms and Haneefah Wood.
Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for the second season of the NAACP Image Award-winning drama “Truth Be Told,” from acclaimed writer, showrunner, and executive producer Nichelle Tramble Spellman. Starring and executive produced by Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer, the anticipated new season also stars Academy Award-nominee Kate Hudson in her first lead role in a television series. The 10-episode second season of the anthology drama, which provides a glimpse into America’s obsession with true crime podcasts, will return on Friday, August 20, 2021 with the first episode, followed by new episodes premiering every Friday.
In season two, investigative reporter turned true crime podcaster Poppy Parnell (Spencer) dives into a new case that deeply involves her childhood friend, media mogul Micah Keith (Hudson). As developments unfold, their lifelong friendship is put to the ultimate test. In addition to Hudson, joining for season two are series regulars Christopher Backus, Alona Tal, David Lyons, Andre Royo, Merle Dandridge and Mychala Faith Lee. Returning cast includes Mekhi Phifer, Michael Beach, Ron Cephas Jones, Tracie Thoms, Haneefah Wood, Tami Roman and Katherine LaNasa.
“Truth Be Told” is created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman and produced by Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content. Serving as executive producers alongside Spellman are Octavia Spencer; Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine; Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for Chernin Entertainment; and Mikkel Nørgaard.
