What Is Sofia The First About?
“Sofia the First: Forever Royal,” a special extended-length finale episode of Disney Junior’s Humanitas and Emmy(R) Award-winning series “Sofia the First,” will premiere SATURDAY, SEPT. 8 (11:00 a.m.-12:10 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Junior and the DisneyNOW app.
Set in the storybook world of Enchancia, “Sofia the First” tells the story of an adventurous little girl who becomes a princess overnight after her mom marries the king. Throughout her journey, she discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that difficult, but possessing the characteristics of a true princess – honesty, loyalty, compassion and grace – is what makes one truly royal. The series stars the voices of Ariel Winter as Sofia; Sara Ramirez as Queen Miranda; Wayne Brady as Clover; and Tim Gunn as Baileywick.
In the finale episode, as Sofia, and siblings Amber and James, prepare for their graduation from Royal Prep Academy, Sofia is called back to the Mystic Isles to face an evil witch named Vor, who is trying to take over the kingdom of Enchancia. Presented with her biggest challenge yet, Sofia must figure out a way to defeat Vor and save her family and the people of Enchancia. “Sofia the First: Forever Royal” features recurring guest stars Eric Stonestreet as Minimus, Bonnie Hunt as Aunt Tilly, Andrew Rannells as Skye, Megan Hilty as Prisma, Ellie Kemper as Crackle, Ming-Na Wen as Vega, Colin Salmon as Orion, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Chrysta, Paty Lombard as Vor and Hugh Bonneville as the Voice of the Secret Library.
Additional members of the voice cast throughout the series’ four seasons include Darcy Rose Byrnes as Amber; Zach Callison, Tyler Merna and Nicolas Cantu as James; Travis Willingham as King Roland II; Jess Harnell as Cedric; Jim Cummings as Wormwood; Ashley Eckstein as Mia the Bluebird; and Meghan Strange as Robin. Disney Legend Russi Taylor (Minnie Mouse), Barbara Dirickson and Tress MacNeille (Daisy Duck), bring Fauna, Flora and Merryweather, respectively, to life.
Featuring over 100 episodes and two record-breaking primetime specials, “Sofia the First” will continue to air on Disney Junior and Disney Channel platforms around the world.

If anyone starts a petition to urge Disney to renew Sofia the First, I will sign it. If there is strength in numbers, perhaps enough names will convince Disney that this show must not die. If anything, it should be moved to the Disney Channel, where it always belonged. Comparing this show’s depth and maturity to offerings such as Doc McStuffins (which, by the way, was recently uncancelled and given a fifth season) does Sofia a disservice. It is the only animated show I have seen on any Disney venue that I believe Walt himself would have applauded. The only other Disney series of like quality is Andi Mack (which I hope will not be cancelled out of hand in a year or two simply because it has reached a certain number of episodes).
Sofia the First is a series that matured over its four seasons to where it is now far beyond the narrow description “children’s show.” Rather, it is a “family show,” one that all ages can watch for its high standards of story and animation. The young characters have aged over four seasons. As King Roland pointed out, they are no longer children, but young adults-in-development. Perhaps the show could return in the (near) future under a new title, with the principals older and more mature, dealing with the problems facing young adults. There would be no need to sacrifice adventure for maudlin soap opera. Tangled is peopled by young adults whose responsibilities have not robbed them of their love of adventure and excitement. Disney has the opportunity to create truly timeless television with these multi-faceted characters. They might consider an original movie to launch the new concept, in much the way that the original Tangled led to “Before Ever After” and the follow-up series.
Writing — good writing — is about people. It matters not so much what happens in a story. What really matters is the characters — the living, breathing people — who make those things happen. Craig Gerber has created a cast of real, believable characters whom, I believe, have grown far beyond what he envisioned in 2012. These people deserve a chance to live on. Sofia deserves the chance to take her rightful place alongside Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and all the other so-called Disney Princesses. Indeed, she is the most deserving of all, for she was not “borrowed” from legend and lore. She is a Disney original, larger than life, yet at the same time as simple and human as you or I. Sofia should, and must, go on.
Here is a thought. Why not release Sofia to ABC? They are, after all, owned by Disney. Let the network that gave us seven glorious years of Once Upon a Time have a go at breathing continued life into Sofia. What? An animated series on a prime time network? Could that work? Ask Matt Groening and Seth MacFarlane.
I’ve said my piece. I hope someone at Disney reads it. At least then they can’t say that no one tried.
I think Sofia the First is a wonderful show! It shows the heroine exercising kindness in all her dealings with others, showing no favoritism, and with no distinction to class or circumstance. It has magic, music, and is beautifully animated. Sofia is a great role model!!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL SOFIA THE FIRST. I am a 65 year old grandmother and watch Sofia with my 9 year old granddaughter. She loves the show and so do I. The show does a wonderful job of teaching so many great attributes that help form a young childs mind. We both also love the music. I am particular to the voices of Sofia and Amber, but love them all. PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW GOING ON!

Please Sofia the first make my kids and I happy my kids love watching Sofia the first and it going to hurt there horrid when u tell them it’s not coming back out with a new season it makes my kids happy and always fight with me about staying up but I can’t say no to my kids pretty please don’t take the show away do it for the kids please ❤️????❤️
